1) This series is about the way girls believe that they need to act or dress or look like in order to be considered beautiful by our culture. It’s called Girl Culture because the need to be beautiful has been morphed into an all consuming thought that is in the back of every girls mind.
2) This series came about by the author , Lauren Greenfield, digressing her photo style and remembering her teenage years as the girl culture had really swallowed her. She remembered how it was important to be thin, sexually appealing, and fashionable.
3) This series is more journalistic as it documents the culture that is still at large and controlling girls everywhere.
4) A lot of this series makes me uncomfortable. I’m a girl and I’ve fallen into the trap of girl culture. I’m still in that trap as I constantly obsess over being pretty and what’s wrong with my body.
5) I would have probably have shown more picture on how younger girls are obsessing over it and becoming moms at such a young age.
6) As I read the authors thoughts on her series I’m reminded of memories of my own experiences with girl culture. I can remember the first time I thought my self ugly, the first time a boy showed interest in me, the first time I wore make up, and so on so forth.

~Vanguard Photo Proposal ~
For this project I plan to take photos of this areas common pop culture. I would take pictures of culture in downtown Jamestown, West Ellicott, Lakewood, Celeron, Busti, and other surrounding areas that we commonly spend most of our time. I would take these pictures to show how though we live in the same area we’re pretty different just by where we grew up. I’d also want to show how this area and where in this area a person grew up in has affected their personality and how they act.
I’d accomplish this by visiting the areas I mentioned before and taking candid pictures or even going to friends houses that live in the different areas. I’d take pictures of the places and the people comparing them all to one another.
The only assistance I’d need would be the cooperation of the people and families I’d be photographing and also the aid of camera. I have a digital but some pictures I may feel would look better in another style.
